Admission into Nigerian universities is highly competitive and requires a great deal of strategic planning. JAMB CUT OFF MARK FOR 2021! WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Many candidates who sat for the 2021 UTME exams still lack genuine information about the cut-off mark. Some are following the news of cut-off marks flying here and there from peddlers who will want to swing you off your hard-earned money. I want to inform you that:
The 2021 JAMB cut-off mark has not been released. Any cut-off mark you see online or in any media is not real. The Cut off marks are usually fixed every year during the JAMB policy meeting which this year is supposed to hold possibly in the months of August or September 2021. During such meetings, the minimum National UTME scores and other realistic institutional UTME scores will be approved. Also, other issues on the conduct of the examination and how to improve future examinations will also be discussed.
Moreover, before such meetings, all degree awarding institutions, College of Education, Polytechnics, and Monotechnic, Innovative Enterprise Institution will have to submit their minimum scores to the board for approval. All these institutions submitted these documents in the month of June 2021. Click HERE to see the pdf version of the list from JAMB’s official website. From these submissions, the meeting will then agree on a minimum National score. For the year 2020, the minimum scores agreed on, were as follows:
- 160 for degree awarding institutions;
- 140 for ND awarding institutions;
- 100 for NID and NCE awarding institutions etc.
From all speculations, I strongly believe that the cut-off mark for this year will be reduced due to the poor performance of candidates. Since over 80% of candidates who sat for the examination scored below JAMB expectations.
JAMB CHANGE OF COURSE OR INSTITUTION
The window for change of institution or course for prospective candidates who wish to is still open. Such changes can only be done in JAMB offices or CBT centers nationwide. This probably is due to the nature of registration this year. However, I will advise all candidates to patiently wait for the official release of the cut-off mark before making any changes.
On the other hand, is your JAMB score of great margins with your intending course of choice? Then, I will advise you have an optional course to change to as PLAN B. For instance, the course, Medicine and Surgery is one of the most competitive in Nigerian Universities today. Every year, over 3000 candidates apply for it in most Universities, and such schools can only admit at most 120 candidates. Now I think you see what we are talking about! If you applied for that course in such a school, and score 250 and below, you should know that you have little chance of being admitted. It will be wise to change to other related courses like pharmacy, physiology, biochemistry anatomy etc. which I know will have lesser cut off mark. Always be wise and attentive to information, as you wait for the release of the approved cut off mark.
BE INFORMED ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
As an intending student, you are expected to be adequately acquainted with the Institution you applied to be admitted into. We live in an information age, all Institutions have website. So do yourself much favour in making research about the school you applied. Check for informations on their previous years admission. This will give you clear insight on what’s required to gain admission into the school, faculty or department you desired to be admitted. Don’t be a novice, so as not to waste another year at home.
